“Young Voices of Arabia” anthology launched at Emirates Airline Festival of Literature 2022 in Dubai
The anthology contains 22 original stories – 11 each in Arabic and English – featuring themes of sustainability and one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The collection, illustrated by UAE-based artists, is available in Arabic and English.
Goodwill Ambassador Sheikha Hissa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum congratulated the young authors who celebrated the book launch by performing original poetry on one of the SDGs.
The writing contest was created to promote awareness of sustainable development and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The regional competition is organized by the Emirates Literature Foundation on behalf of Sheikha Hissa, who is the initiative’s Goodwill Ambassador for the Gulf region.
Sheikha Hissa said, “I had a wonderful time reading these stories as they fill me with hope for the future. I encourage everyone to read them and be inspired by the great talent and passion that local youth have shown with their submissions.
She added: “This is a book I will cherish for a long time and I am excited to see what the future holds for our young authors. Imagination is the seed that will grow into concrete solutions for a better future. J I hope all the kids in the area will participate and imagine it too, and I look forward to seeing their submissions this year.

We believe stories are the best way to change hearts, minds and behaviors, and these stories released today will inspire big change and remind us that we can do better.
Organizers said the 2022 competition is now open to all children residing in the Gulf region between the ages of eight and 12. Entries can be in Arabic or English and be between 600 and 1,500 words.
Adventure stories should present themes around children’s rights and sustainable development, as well as the writer’s hopes, dreams or aspirations for a sustainable future.
