Pathankot, November 22

Pathankot Police’s newly established social media cell scored its first blow by arresting three people engaged in producing and uploading a video featuring a Punjabi song promoting gun culture.

SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said police seized two guns and an SUV, which was seen in the video. The defendants were identified as Gagandeep Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Ashok Kumar, all residents of Pathankot. They were arrested at Shahpur Kandi police station under Section 188 (disobeying government orders), IPC and Section 153 of the Arms Act. “We are looking for two other people who were seen accompanying the defendant in the clip,” the SSP said.

The social media cell was recently established in all police districts on the instructions of DGP Gaurav Yadav. Team members came across a video on a social media site in the morning in which the defendants sang a song carrying guns in their hands.

“They glorified the very fact of owning guns. This was in clear violation of the Punjab government’s recent ban on publicly displaying weapons on social media sites,” a police officer said.
