For the first time ever, the Jaipur Literature Festival will make its global debut at Soneva Fushi in the Maldives in May. Featuring a spectacular line-up of world-renowned authors, thinkers and cultural leaders, this show kicks off May 13 and ends May 22.
Celebrating art, literature and beyond, this 10-day festival is organized by Soneva who are a household name in the hospitality industry and Teamwork Arts, the organizers of JLF. Check out the list of speakers at the world’s first JLF at Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll in the Maldives here.
List of speakers at JLF Soneva Fushi
Celebrate the theme of slow life, the first JLF show in the Maldives will cover a wide range of topics, ranging from nation-building to the natural world, from politics to poetry and from spirituality to scientific discovery, among others. Organizers recently unveiled a roster of 30 speakers and authors who are expected to make the festival even more nuanced with their engaging dialogues.
The list includes renowned novelist Elif Shafakfilmmaker Mira Nairauthor and politician Shashi Tharoor, American writer and memoirist André AcimanNigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and author and teacher Mahmoud Mamdani. Art critic and historian BN Goswamyinvestigative journalist Patrick Radden Keefe, former deputy chief of staff in the United States Huma Abedin, former Governor of West Bengal Gopalkrishna Gandhiwriter and diplomat Pavan K. Varma will also be part of the festival this year.
This year’s lineup also includes award-winning author Sahitya Akademi Namita Gokhalewriter, historian and co-director of JLF Guillaume Dalrymple and diplomat and author Exchange of Vikasamong others.
Celebrating art, literature and culture
Spanning 10 days including two weekends, the JLF Soneva Fushi Festival will include events on different themes related to art and culture. Speech topics include film and adaptations, politics and world order; Science, innovation and the environment, travel writing, history, fiction, poetry, music, miniatures and food and memory.
The weekend program will be dedicated to JLF signature events including keynote speeches, gala dinners on the sand, sunset poetry cruises, live music performances and film screenings at Cinema Paradiso. The landmark session will be marked by a keynote speech by Eva and Sonu Shivdasani, the co-founders of Soneva along with Festival co-directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple.
