Revival of Sports Culture in Punjab is Punjab Government’s Top Priority: Meet Hayer

CHANDIGARSports and Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said on Saturday that reviving sports culture in the state was the top priority of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The Punjab government would ensure that players who excelled in the sport were encouraged by offering cash prizes. The state government would also formulate an effective policy to provide sports equipment in addition to healthy food/food for sportsmen.

Sports Minister Meet Hayer was here to meet the winners of Khelo India Games – 2022 and cheer them on in Punjab Bhawan. He urged sportsmen to work hard to make Punjab the number one in sports. He said the Punjab government was working hard to revive sports culture in the state. He said Punjabis have a long association with sports.

The Cabinet Minister said that in the Punjab budget which was recently presented by the Punjab government, the annual budget for sports has been increased to Rs. 223 crore which would give a big boost to promote sports . He said that under the policy of the state government, gold medal winners at the Khelo Indian Games will receive Rs. 50,000, silver medalists Rs. 30,000 and medal winners bronze will receive Rs. 20,000.

The Minister of Sports and Youth Services said that although Punjab was ranked 9th overall in Indian Games Khelo-2022, Punjab players performed brilliantly and won medals.

Encouraging and motivating the players, he said, “Read the biographies of great players, keep moving forward with the goal set with determination.”

Meet Hayer urged players to make their parents, state and country proud. He warned players to stay away from drugs and push forward with their natural strength and refrain from using chemical powders or steroids to enhance their performance.

Apart from the Principal Secretary of Sport and Youth Services, Mr. Raj Kamal Chaudhary, the Director, Mr. Rajesh Dhiman, a large number of sports coaches, district sports officers and sportsmen were present at the occasion. .
