The state’s Mann government has also ordered a review of weapons licensing within the next three months. An official order has been issued in this regard. According to the order, a complete ban should be imposed on the carrying and display of weapons at public gatherings, religious places, wedding ceremonies and other events.

In the meantime, no new licenses should be issued unless DC is personally satisfied. Random checks will take place in the coming days. If an arm license is found issued to the wrong person, it must be canceled immediately, the order says. Life-threatening festive shooting will also be punishable.

Per the order, songs that glorify guns and violence are to be completely banned. The public display of weapons, including on social media, will also be banned. The CM of Punjab has issued instructions to Commissioners and Chief Superintendents of Police to maintain law and order.

Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is facing criticism from opposition parties in the state over rising incidents of gun violence. Earlier this month, Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead in broad daylight in Amritsar, Punjab. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh Sunny. A few days later, Dera Sacha Sauda follower Pradeep Singh was also shot dead in Faridkot, Punjab.
