‘People rejected BJP’: TMC reacts to Tripura CM resignation

After Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb resigned from his post on Saturday, the Trinamool Congress turned its guns on the BJP, accusing it of failing the people of the northeastern state.

A message on the official TMC Twitter account read: “Goodbye and good riddance to the CM who let down thousands of people in #Tripura! Enough damage done. So much so that even @BJP4India’s top bosses are fed up with his INCOMPETENCE. The BJP folks seem very shaken by what @AITCofficial has achieved in the state. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE.

Speaking on the development, Chandrima Bhattacharya, senior TMC official and Minister of State, said: “Once an image is lost, it can never be reconstructed. I don’t know if he resigned under pressure from his party.

TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh claimed that Deb’s resignation was a direct result of BJP infighting in Tripura. “The BJP is struggling to fight the infighting. One fraction revolts against another. The party leadership has understood that under these circumstances it cannot win the Assembly elections next year. That’s why they forced him to quit. But it will not bear fruit as people have clearly rejected the BJP in Tripura,” Ghosh said.

BJP national deputy chairman Dilip Ghosh said Deb must abide by the party’s decision. “The party ordered him to resign and he accepted. He will work for the organization now. But I cannot explain why such a decision was made,” Ghosh said.
