pema khandu: People of Arunachal learned a lot from Tibetan settlers, says CM Pema Khandu
Khandu joined the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Sambhota Tibetan School, formerly known as the Central School for Tibetans, at Tenzing Gang, near Kalaktang in West Kameng district.
Founded fifty years ago in 1972 as a primary school, today it is a secondary school providing formal education not only to the children of Tibetan settlers but also to the local communities residing nearby. Tenzing Gang is one of three official settlements for Tibetans in Arunachal Pradesh. The other two settlements are in Tezu (Lohit) and Miao (Changlang).
“This is indeed an incredible journey of the Sambhota Tibetan School since 1972. The institution is doing a great job, especially focusing on the education of girls, the Tibetan community and the local Arunachalis” , did he declare.
Khandu hailed the Tibetans who, although settled in a different country, have maintained cordial relations with the local indigenous communities while preserving their rich Buddhist culture, tradition and language.
He said, âI make it a point to visit Tibetan settlements whenever I’m on tour. I visited the two settlements in Eastern Arunachal and found that the indigenous communities around these settlements actually benefited from the Tibetans.
Khandu explained that the local Arunachalee learned a lot from the Tibetan settlers in practicing and keeping alive their traditional textile and hand loom, language and rich culture.
The Chief Minister, for the umpteenth time, called on the indigenous communities of the state to pass on their respective culture, traditions and language to the next generation.
He said the state government is committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of every indigenous community in the state, but asserted that the responsibility lies more with the current generation of elders, elderly and parents.
Referring to a message from the Dalai Lama, which was read earlier, Khandu reiterated the teaching of human values ââto students alongside formal education â the essence of the Dalai Lama’s message.
âI would like to reiterate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message that our goal must be to instill compassion and human values ââin our children. And also teach them the importance of our environment, our climate and our planet,â he said.
