om birla: website to encourage vernacular literature launched by LS Speaker Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla launched the Kalam website, a literary initiative of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation (PKF) to support and encourage vernacular literature on May 7. The PKF is a Kolkata-based non-profit trust dedicated to socio-cultural welfare and humanitarian causes.

The Kalam website aims to popularize and provide a platform for old and young authors and poets to talk about their writings and their love for vernacular literature. Kalam was launched in the summer of 2015 in Patna and Jaipur. Since then, he has organized more than 550 sessions spread across 40 Indian cities and abroad.

Kalam sessions are insightful and inspiring for authors and audiences who appreciate Hindi literary creations. It is in line with the philosophy of our nation, that is to say “unity in diversity”. The same is reflected in the slogan of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation – “Aapne Bhasha Aapne Log”.

Besides scripting successful sessions that enrich the literary heritage of the nation, the foundation is also the guardian of the gems of Hindi language literary traditions.

One of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation’s prized literary verticals, Kalam features national reach, global identity and niche audiences.
