Hyderabad: Minister of Municipal Administration, KT Rama Rao said that the government has undertaken safety audit of nalas in all major municipal enterprises including GHMC, and municipalities to safeguard the lives of people residing nearby nalas.
He instructed officials to ensure safety and preparatory measures to avoid any untoward incidents during the monsoon season. He instructed the officials to complete the works relating to the reinforcement and repair of the retaining walls near Nalas on a war footing.
The minister on Tuesday reviewed the work relating to the Nala Strategic Development Program (SNDP). He said officials need to identify places on the nalas that need to be strengthened and developed. Work related to reinforcement, repair and safety measures such as the construction of a retaining wall would be taken up on the nalas.
KTR said a few unfortunate incidents took place near Nalas despite taking precautionary measures and warned officials that such incidents should not occur in the future. “Senior officials will be held accountable if an untoward incident occurs in the future due to the lack of security measures near the nalas,” KTR said.
The minister asked the GHMC Commissioner, DS Lokesh Kumar to review the security measures and work of the SNDP on a weekly basis. He also asked Mayor G Vijayalakshmi to oversee the works across the city. Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar, Lokesh Kumar, Mayor and senior officials of MA&UD department were present at the meeting.
