Hybrid Model Scores High Among Indian Employees: HP Study


Indian employees do not want to return to the office full-time as they appreciate the hybrid work model, which has become a necessity over the past couple of years, due to the pandemic. According to HP’s global study, Indian employees are strongly in favor of a hybrid work model because they believe it improves their productivity and provides them with much-needed work-life balance. Employers also have reason to rejoice, as Indian employees report a higher likelihood of staying in their current job if they have a hybrid work option.

HP Inc. has commissioned a global hybrid work survey that offers key insights into Indian employee attitudes to work, career growth and retention issues. The survey totaled more than 10,000 respondents, including more than 1,000 Indians, aged 18 to 50 and over. Participants worked full-time or part-time in a variety of industries or were business owners or self-employed.

Hybrid work leads to better work-life balance

The hybrid model is seen as amplifying employees’ chances of prioritizing personal well-being. Most respondents prefer to work from their desk two to three days a week.

The results reveal that ordinary individuals working in India believe in higher retention capacity, thanks to the hybrid model.

Hybrid working helps increase productivity and work efficiency

According to the survey, the hybrid model increases productivity, allows employees to concentrate better and provides more flexibility to get the job done. 47% of respondents believe that productivity from home with visibility in the office gives them a better chance of promotion and gives them more opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and build relationships with their team members.

The survey also suggests that Indian respondents feel more open to constructive collaborations in the hybrid working model. In a uniquely remote environment, establishing that human connection and socialization is a challenge. 42% of respondents believe they can have better and more engaging in-person conversations, while 62% find it easier to work with others in the office.

Technology tools are crucial for a successful hybrid work environment

Technology should enable companies to fully empower their employees for hybrid working.

51% of respondents agree that laptops help them complete tasks more productively and 43% agree that they have a more improved collaboration process thanks to laptops.

According to the Survey, companies need to provide access to better tools while providing adequate training, in order to further boost productivity. Additionally, fostering a culture of trust in the workplace leads to inclusivity in a hybrid work environment.

The way forward for hybrid working

The survey further reveals that much more needs to be done to ensure a truly fair and collaborative future of work. The concept of Technology Shame is one that often gets in the way of acceptance (of hybrid work?) and a holistic approach to work. The potential embarrassment of technology failure drives more than a third of young respondents to buy their own equipment.

In India, 30% of respondents believe that the internet connection is one of the major disruptions. To further improve productivity, 13% of Indian respondents believe they need access to better tools and accessories such as headsets, monitor and webcam.
