Haryana Vigilance Bureau arrests eight people in 24 hours for accepting bribes worth Rs 2.62 lakh
Haryana State Vigilance Bureau nabbed up to eight people from Karnal, Kurukshetra and Faridabad districts in the past 24 hours for accepting bribes worth Rs 2.62 lakh (total) in separate cases.
According to Vigilance Bureau officials, those arrested in the past 24 hours included a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), two police officers and two junior engineers, among others.
A spokesperson for the Vigilance Office said on Friday the arrests were part of the state’s ongoing efforts to fight corruption.
“In the first instance, Manish Lamba, an SDO, and Pawan Kumar, a junior engineer, from Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam stationed in Nissing, Karnal, along with the SDO driver were caught with Rs 1 lakh which they had received as a bribe. They had taken a bribe from a farmer for removing power lines from his fields in Nissing. However, when the officials failed to remove the electrical wires from the man’s fields even after taking a total of Rs. 3.5 lakh from him, the farmer approached the Vigilance Bureau with a complaint. After verifying the complaint, a trap was set and the officials were caught in the act with the bribe money.
