Warangal Give us an opportunity to form a popular government in Telangana, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appealed to the people while categorically ruling out any political association with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

In the same tone, he warns that those who “looted” Telangana will not be spared, pointing an accusing finger at the TRS leadership.

Addressing a massive meeting in Warangal on Friday, he argued that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao behaves like a king rather than a chief minister. In fact, he asked the congregation whether what he had said was true or not, even as they responded vehemently.

“Telangana was not formed for a single person but on the sacrifices of people, young people for their better future. It has been 8 years and I want to ask if Telangana’s development dream has come true. Telangana is witness to the way a single family benefited,” he said.

Mr Gandhi, who met the families of farmers who killed themselves, said they reflected government failure. “This is not what Sonia Gandhi wanted when she gave Telangana, moved by the blood of young people.”

He said it was not a decision of Congress to give the separate state but Sonia Gandhi decided to politically sacrifice the party in some states to respect the feelings of the people.

He said the Warangal Declaration on Farmers is not a hollow political document but the promise of the first steps of the Congress party to reassure the people of their glorious dream of a separate state. “We delivered on the promise made in Chhattisgarh and we will deliver here too,” he said.

In what could be taken as a warning to some Congress leaders, he said those who want a friendship with the TRS can leave the party and join it or join the BJP.

Hinting that TRS and the BJP are together, he said the BJP wants a puppet government in Telangana and he believes TRS can be controlled remotely from the Center. The BJP can never win in Telangana and it can only control Telangana through the TRS, he alleged.

The proof of their friendship is that the BJP is silent on the leadership of the TRS and has never seen raids from central agencies like the ED and the CBI, which is the practice of the BJP, Gandhi claimed.
