Emirates Airline Literature Festival 2023 lineup announced, featuring Mohsin Hamid
The Emirates Airline Literature Festival will celebrate its 15th anniversary next year, in the presence of regional and international award-winning authors, experts and Hollywood celebrities.
Organizers unveiled the lineup on Monday at Mohammed bin Rashid LibraryDubai’s new landmark which will be one of the two main venues for the festival, which runs from February 1-6.
Among the famous authors present are an Anglo-Pakistani novelist Mohsin Hamidknown for his critically acclaimed novels The reluctant fundamentalist and West exit and Irish author Cecelia Ahern, known for her novels ps i love you and Where the rainbows end.
Early novelists in attendance include Bonnie Garmus, author of Chemistry class, Bolu Babalola, author of honey and spices, Jo Browning Wroe, author of terrible kindness and Greg Mosse, author of The coming darkness.
From Hollywood, Emmy-winning actor Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy in the hit HBO series Succession, Will be present. Director and screenwriter David Koepp, who wrote the script for Jurassic Park, will make a virtual appearance and engage with audiences on the art of writing blockbuster movies and bestselling novels.
Panel discussions will include a session moderated by a renowned religious commentator Reza Aslan in conversation with Omar Saif Gobash as well as sessions with Bahraini poet Qasim Haddad and Emirati author and poet Saqer Housewinner of this year Sheikh Zayed Book Prize in the Literature category.
The festival will also mark 100 years since the publication of Kahlil Gibran The Prophet and the 140th anniversary of his birthday, with an evening of music, poetry and performance, and a Lebanese party.
“The 2023 Festival is a milestone edition for us, our 15th anniversary”, Ahlam Bolookidirector of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, tells The National.
“The whole team rose to the challenge of making it more special than ever, with more authors, innovative formats and two locations.”
The theme of the festival, ‘Old Friends’, reflects the path the event has taken to shape the literary scene in the UAE, exposing audiences to world-renowned authors and providing a platform for writers from the region. to showcase their literary talents. .
“The theme for the upcoming Emirates Lit Fest has played a major role in curating the festival’s program,” says Bolooki.
“Over the past 14 years, we have hosted 1,700 speakers in Dubai and at the festival. And we have invited many of these beloved speakers to be part of the 2023 lineup.”
The festival will take place at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City and the recently opened Mohammed bin Rashid Library in Al Jaddaf. The two venues will be linked by an abra service to transport speakers and audiences across the creek for sessions, workshops and other bookish activities.
