Electricity tariff hike shows CM doesn’t care about people: EPS

The sharp increase in the electricity tariff, announced on Saturday, shows that the Chief Minister, Deputy Stalin, does not care about people but only about his family, the opposition leader and acting secretary general said on Sunday. from AIADMK, Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

Addressing party workers in Avinashi, he said there was an average increase of 34% in the electricity tariff and the government would get ₹15,000 crore in revenue per year from it. In addition, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission had approved a 6% increase in tariff every year. Thus, by 2026, the tariff would increase by 52%. People have been hit hard for two years by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy has been affected. When they return to normal, such an increase in the electricity rate would paralyze them. There was also an increase in property tax. “How are people going to deal with the hike,” he asked and alleged that the chief minister was not worried about people but only about his family.

The Athikadavu Avinashi scheme was announced by the AIADMK government, which allocated nearly ₹1,650 crore to it. “I laid the foundations. If it had been completed now, all the water bodies would have been full,” Mr Palaniswami said. Work under the program was expected to be completed by December 2021. Now there was uncertainty whether the program would be completed by December this year. The DMK government was delaying it only because it was announced by the AIADMK government, he alleged.
