Eight more people die in floods in Assam | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: Eight more people died in Assam on Thursday, while one was missing in the floods even as the situation showed signs of slight improvement. With that, the death toll in this year’s rainy season since April 6 rose to 159.
The number of people affected has risen from over 31 lakh to over 29 lakh in the past 24 hours. The number of detainees in the relief camps also fell slightly by 7,000 during this period.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma On Thursday, held a virtual conference with the Deputy Commissioners and asked them to provide Rs 3,800 to the head of each family living in relief camps or in a camp-like situation.
“The state government will provide Rs 1,000 to students whose study materials have been damaged by the flood waters,” he added.
Sarma also asked DC to conduct a survey to identify severely, fully and partially damaged homes, starting Friday and to prepare the lists by July 15. will be paid after July 20 to homeowners to help rebuild their homes.
He also ordered the administrations to set up a task force to submit the list of livestock and other damages by August 8 with the aim of getting the compensation by August 15.
He further affirmed that the state government would start restoration if the flood situation improves within a month.
