Egypt among countries most affected by climate change: Minister
Cairo, Sep 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Egypt’s Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Suweilam said on Sunday that Egypt was one of the countries most affected by climate change in the world, a news site reported.
The Egyptian minister made the remarks during the opening session of an environment and development forum on Egypt’s preparations to host the 27th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) to be held in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. Egypt is suffering from water scarcity, high temperatures, erosion and salt water intrusion into fresh water, the minister said.

The Minister also urged all countries to strengthen cooperation on combating extreme climate, stressing the need to place the water, food and agriculture sector on the global climate agenda.
Egypt is making great efforts to improve water management, including rehabilitating canals to better deliver water to farmers, Suweilam said, adding that water is a key component of agriculture and Food Safety.
The minister stressed the need to expand water desalination projects, exploring cheaper and more efficient ways to reuse wastewater.
