New Delhi, January 1 (IANS): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday launched a 100-day reading campaign titled ‘Padhe Bharat’ in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes promoting of a happy reading culture in children by ensuring the availability of reading appropriate to their age. books in any language.

In launching the campaign, the Minister stressed the importance of reading habits that children must develop to ensure continuous and lifelong learning.

He said that the habit of reading, if instilled at an early age, helps brain development, improves imagination and provides a conducive learning environment for children.

Pradhan stressed that reading is the foundation of learning, which motivates students to read books independently, develops creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and the ability to express themselves both verbally and in writing. .

It helps children relate to their surroundings and to real-life situations, he added.

Pradhan also stressed the need to create a conducive environment in which students read for pleasure and develop their skills through an enjoyable and lasting process that accompanies them throughout their lives.

He also shared the names of the five books he chose to start reading. He encouraged everyone to adopt the habit of reading books and urged everyone to share what they read with suggestions.

The “Padhe Bharat” campaign will focus on children who are studying from kindergarten to grade 8. The reading campaign will run for 100 days (14 weeks) from January 1 to April 10.

The campaign aims to engage all stakeholders at national and state level, including children, teachers, parents, education administrators, etc.

One activity per week and per group has been designed with the aim of making reading enjoyable and creating a lifelong association with the pleasure of reading. The campaign was also aligned with the vision and goals of the Core Literacy and Numeracy Mission.

The 100-day reading campaign will focus on Indian languages ​​including mother tongue, local and regional languages.
