BELAGAVI: “Many innocent people are converting to other religions by taking advantage of people’s poverty and helplessness. Our government will no longer tolerate such activities,” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking at the ‘Uttar Karnataka Prant meeting of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Udyambag in Belagavi, CM Bommai said that’ the attempts to convert the religion of the people by taking advantage of their poverty, helplessness and attracting them offering them financial assistance have been observed in the state.

The BJP government will not tolerate such activities. Therefore, an anti-conversion bill will be tabled in the state as soon as possible, he said.

“There is no provision in our constitution for illegal activities carried out by offering financial assistance. We need to develop laws to prevent such activities. the bill and opposed it, had attempted to introduce this bill in 2019 when they were in power. They now oppose this bill, because of their political mileage, ”he said and added that“ the conversion does not only increase or decrease the number but to change the thoughts of the people. First, they attract the people, then it becomes painful. Our government, our society and our country will not allow such activities, ”he said.
