Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: The Ministry of Culture will organize a 2-day event on the occasion of International Mother Language Day


The Ministry of Culture will organize a two-day event on International Mother Language Day as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event will kick off from tomorrow at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, New Delhi. During the event, the keynote speech will be delivered by the Secretary of Culture, the Director of the UNESCO Cluster Office and the famous lyricist and poet Prasoon Joshi. The function will also witness poetry recitation, group singing and dancing. A webinar on Using Technology for Multilingual Learning – Challenges and Opportunities will take place.

A book, Tribal and Indigenous Languages ​​of India written by IGNCA Dean, Professor Ramesh Gaur, will also be launched at the event.

An Ekam Bharatam event will witness the distinguished presence of Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi for the official release of Vande Bharatam soundtrack. The song which was co-created by Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej with tabla maestro Bikram Ghosh was part of the Ministry of Culture’s dance presentations during the Republic Day event this year.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated around the world on February 21 each year to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. The idea of ​​celebrating International Mother Language Day first came from Bangladesh.

The General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to celebrate February 21 as International Mother Language Day in the year 2000. Each year a unique theme is chosen by UNESCO to celebrate this special day.

The theme for 2022 is, Using Technology for Multilingual Learning Challenges and Opportunities. It focuses on the potential role of technology in advancing multilingual education and supporting the development of quality teaching and learning for all.
