Amit Shah slams Nitish-Lalu duo; calls on people to vote BJP for absolute majority in next poll

Amit Shah ridiculed Mr Kumar for stabbing BJP and other leaders from time to time just to save his chair

After Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, led by Janata Dal-United, severed ties with the BJP in August this year, Union Home Minister and top BJP leader Amit Shah reached Purnia district in the Seemanchal (border) region of northeast Bihar on September 23, 2022 and slammed heavily at the duo of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad.

In his speech at Jan Bhawna (the people’s emotion) in a public meeting at Rangbhumi Maidan (ground) of Purnia city, Mr Shah attacked both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. He also ridiculed Mr. Kumar for stabbing the BJP and other leaders from time to time just to save his chair (as Chief Minister).

“You stabbed the BJP to feed your dream of becoming prime minister, but Nitish babu, you cannot become prime minister through these tricky policies,” Shah said as the crowd cheered.

“After betraying BJP, Nitish babu sat on Lalu Prasad’s lap but I wish to tell you Lalu ji that Nitish Kumar will betray you again and go with the Congress Party to fulfill his dream of becoming Prime Minister. He (Nitish Kumar) can go anywhere for power. His only policy is that his chair be protected anyway,” Mr. Shah said and asked the gathered crowd “Could Nitish Kumar become prime minister? “.

“It was Prime Minister Modi‘s big heart that the BJP offered you to become Chief Minister of State despite the lesser number of seats your party got in the last assembly ballot, but in the next 2024 parliamentary poll, Nitish-Lalu pairing will be over and in 2025 BJP will form Bihar government alone,” the Union Home Minister said.

List of Nitish betrayal in the past

Mr Shah also listed the names of the leaders Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had betrayed earlier and said “treason has become a habit of Nitish Kumar and who will believe him now”.

Mr Shah also reminded people of the multi-crore fodder scam in which Mr Prasad is convicted; Lalu era raj jungle, caste wars and asked the gathered crowd, “Do you still want this government?”. “Laluji, what was happening under your regime, everyone knows,” he added.

“Now with Nitish Kumar sitting on Lalu ji’s lap, the two will be participating in a lathi (staff) rally in the state,” Mr Shah quipped.

He also warned Mr. Prasad to be careful with Mr. Kumar as he might betray him again for his lust for power.

Taking the name of JD(U) Chairman Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Mr. Shah further said that he has emerged as a new leader. “You were one of the petitioners in a multi-crore fodder scam case but those who were involved in the scam have now become government ministers, now what are you going to do?” asked M Shah to Mr. Singh.

Mr Singh, recently, has been seen at the forefront to sever ties with the BJP and join RJD to form the Mahagathbandhan government in the state.

“Now they (Mahagathbandhan leaders) want to ban CBI from coming to the state,” Mr Shah wondered.

Amit gives the package break

Mr. Shah, in his nearly 40-minute address, also announced the severance of what Prime Minister Modi had earlier promised to provide Bihar with ₹1.35 lakh crore for the development of the state.

He also listed the social benefit schemes for the Seemanchal region by the Prime Minister Modi-led government at the Center and asked, “Nitish babu, what have you done?”.

Shah also asked people who they want to see as the country’s next prime minister: Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi?, and called for giving the BJP a full majority to form the Bihar government for state development.

“With the BJP in power, Bihar would be among the most developed states in the country,” he said.

It was the first visit by a senior BJP leader to the state since the JD(U) led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar severed ties with the BJP to form the mahagathbandhan government in alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, Left and other Bihar parties.

Home Minister to meet key BJP leaders

Shah will meet with all the state’s top BJP leaders and its central committee members in nearby Kishanganj district after Purnia’s Jan Bhawna (People’s Emotion) rally. Mr Shah will depart for Delhi from Kishanganj on Saturday.

All major BJP leaders, legislators and parliamentarians in the state have been camping in Purnia district for several days with a view to making Mr Shah’s rally a mega spectacle.

The four districts of the Seemanchal (border) region of northeast Bihar, Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria and Katihar have around 47% Muslim population while Kishanganj alone has 67%.

The four constituencies represent 24 seats in the assembly while four parliamentary seats result.

In 2019 Lok Sabha poll, BJP won only one seat from Araria while JD(U) won two seats from Purnia and Katihar and Kishanganj seat went to the party of Congress. In 2019, the BJP and JD(U) conducted elections together as allies.

The four districts have a total of 24 assembly seats, including eight in the BJP, followed by five seats each in Congress and the RJD. JD(U) has four seats while the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) has one each.

The AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) led by Asaduddin Owaisi won five seats in the last 2020 assembly elections in the Seemanchal region, but four of its legislators have recently joined RJD.

Earlier on September 20, ruling mahagathbandhan ally JD(U) announced that in view of Mr Shah’s visit, it would observe a day of protest in all bloc headquarters on September 27.
