6.5 million people displaced inside Ukraine due to war: UN


The UN migration agency said on Friday that nearly 6.5 million people have been displaced inside Ukraine, in addition to the 3.2 million who have already fled the country.

Estimates from the International Organization for Migration suggest Ukraine is on track in just three weeks to the levels of displacement from Syria’s devastating war, which has driven an estimated 13 million people from their homes to the both in the country and abroad.

“According to these estimates, around half of the country is either internally displaced, stuck in affected areas or unable to leave, or has already fled to neighboring countries,” he said, hinting to Ukraine’s population of approximately 44 million before the start of the war.

According to the newspaper, 9.56 million people have been displaced by the war so far on Wednesday, and 2.2 million people were considering leaving.

The IOM estimates that more than 3 million people had fled abroad by Wednesday.

The UNHCR, in its latest figures released on Friday, said more than 3.2 million people had fled Ukraine.
