Macka Diamond's Bood Sell Off!!  Beenie Man Has The Remedy....Bollywood News & more.....

Less than a month after its launch, publishing house Pageturner is reporting that Macka Diamond's first novel Bun Him!!! is doing well.  A press release was sent to West Indian Times last week which stated:  "This may come across as a bit surprising to many whose views may centre around the myth that the followers of dancehall music do not read. Then again, let's just say that theory is correct, then dancehall has done it again, penetrating the barriers of a genre that seemed reserved for the so-called intellectuals of society."  The statement further notes that Noel Cole, owner of Everybody's Book Shop in Ocho Rios, St Ann, testifies to this fact, "it is the first I have a book in this store that moves so fast".  "It's doing great," the release quotes Aileen Moody, manager at the Spanish Town branch of Sangster's Book Store. "We can't keep them on the shelves, as you put them out, dem gone, it's the only single book I've seen sold so much, so fast."  "Most of those who come in and buy the book are women, both young and old, but surprisingly, we also see quite a lot of men coming in and getting it, anxious to see what she has to say as an entertainer," the release states, attributing the quote to Moody.  The release even notes that the word from managers of the Fontana Pharmacy chain was that after their first order, they had to replenish their stock with quickness, because keeping the books on the shelves was literally that hard.  "It may surprise many, but Macka is selling off even in the tourist district of Negril and at the Airport Book Shops." Curiosity?. Maybe, but one thing is for sure, Bun Him!!! is on fire.

DSC_0231Deejay Beenie Man may be one of the most controversial artistes in the business, but its the controversy that has kept him in the game. Despite this, he is still the 'girls dem sugar' and the 'Doctor;' and has proven that he has the remedy for dancehall – stagecraft.  The artiste performed recently at the Ninjaman and Friends showcase in Miami where he proved his versatility and gave a commanding performance after doing a combination stint that included Sizzla, Ninjaman, Junior Reid and Pinchers.   After assuring the audience that there was no hard feelings between himself and Sizzla after a misunderstanding, 'the doctor' went on to big up Sizzla saying, "Sizzla a mi artiste," to which the crowd erupted in a massive applause.   The females in the venue screamed as he gave them medley after medley of his popular hits songs - past and present. Beenie Man stayed away from his personal life and implored his fans to continue to route for him as he is still the 'king of the dancehall.'    When he exited the stage at minutes past five, ardent fans begged him for more. But, as the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end," and he departed the stage leaving them fully satisfied.

Foxy BrownFoxy Brown was singing a different tune Tuesday, October 16th when she showed up in court four days after refusing to appear to face assault charges.  The 28-year-old rapper, who is serving a year at Rikers Island prison in New York for violating probation, arrived at Brooklyn state Supreme Court wearing casual street clothing.  She pleaded not guilty to charges that she threw a cell phone at a neighbor who complained about the volume of her car radio. The plea was entered by her attorney, John Sampson, the district attorney's office said.  On Friday, October 12th Brown twice refused to appear in court for her arraignment. Prosecutors rescheduled her appearance for Tuesday, warning that if she refused to show up, the court would issue an order allowing correction officers to put her in handcuffs and force her onto a bus.  Brown was arrested in the New York City borough of Brooklyn in August and accused of striking Arlene Raymond, 25, after the pair got into a fight July 30 over Brown blasting her car stereo near her home.   She was arraigned on charges of assault, attempted assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon — the cell phone.  Justice John Ingram extended Raymond's order of protection to Dec. 18, 2008, and ordered Brown back in court Dec. 17.  Brown is in jail for violating probation — skipping her anger management classes and traveling out of the city without permission — in a Manhattan case involving a fight she had with manicurists in a nail salon three years ago.
