It Was
The Best Of The Best In Miami Over Memorial
Weekend '07!
by Lady Cham,

West Indian Times was in Miami for
the Memorial Day Weekend and it was three full days of
fun in the sun!!! The Best of The Best show presented on
Memorial Sunday, May 27th in Miami by Jabba of Massive
B, most certainly had some of the best reggae acts
blazing the reggae trail right now. Newcomer Collie Budz
was like a seasoned pro and had an energetic set. Akon
delighted the fans because he expressed unhappiness that
there was a huge gap between himself and his fans so he
went and joined them in the crowd, he made it out minus
his shirt and had to hold on to his pants! Lady Saw,
Buju Banton, Capelton, Bounty Killa, Elephant Man, Etana,
Bling Dawg, Barrington Levy, Shaggy, Tony Matterhorn,
and a slew of other artists all gave magnificent
performances which we only managed to catch glimpses of
as were spent most of our time in the press tent which
was too far from the stage to keep running back and
forth. However we caught bits and pieces of the show on
the monitor in the press tent and also judging from the
noise from the crowd, they were feeling irie and all was
well. Elephant Man gave a memorable performance with
Bubbler and also a busty fan from the crowd!! Buju still
sends chills down my spine and is truly and artist who
has a passion for spreading positive Jamaican vibes
wherever he goes. Capelton, one of my favorites,
continued his mission to bun down Babylon, iniquity,
inequality and all injustice as only he and his David
House camp can. From a media stand point, I must say,
all of the artists were very accommodating and pleasant,
they were eager to talk to the press and keep us updated
with what they are doing. Even Elephant Man gave me a
wonderful interview and grinned when he realized who I
was "Lady Cham, Ah Lie!!" (Remember my article on Ele
dissing VA?)
Every
artist had beautiful vibes and much kudos to Tracii
McGregor who made sure that West Indian Times got every
interview and drop that we requested. Some people say
that these Reggae shows have the same line ups and are
boring after a while, but true Reggae lovers and those
who understand the Caribbean culture know that all shows
have their own unique feel and this one was a huge
feeling of unity. The Best of the Best did just that:
Showcased the Best of the Best!!
We
also have to thank
www.Generationxmiami.com for a wonderful
Saturday night at The Bayside Hut, I can’t reveal too
much but Artist Futuristic, Mistress of Love, Jr Dread
and myself now know why Miami does not sleep!!! Big up
to The Out n’ Bad Ladies and the barbers from 'StyleRite'
who repped for VA all night long!! Big up to Best of the
Best for the after party at The Bayside Hut on Sunday
night, it was like being at Passa Passa!
Also,
Monday night belonged to Peppers in Ft. Lauderdale and
Steelie Bashment, Super Twitch and Richie Pooh took us
through with some wicked Reggae music all night long!!!
DJ Charger tried his best to tell me the names of all
the dancers from out of JA but for some reason I don't
remember a thing!!!
Memorial
Weekend Miami was the Best of the Best!!!!!
