A Soldier Never Cries

Written By: Laura E. Johnson

About The Book:  Sara Cornwall had it all living the typical life of a 26 year old. She is living in Philadelphia and working in the city. She is brown skin with beautiful oval shaped eyes. She just purchased her first home and had met the man of her dreams. She grew up in Jamaica and migrated to America in search of hopes and dreams. But what people didn’t know was that her life was about to be turned upside down.

Sara joined the army some years ago and that decision will forever change her life. Sara is called to duty in Iraq to fight a war she knew nothing about. While busy fighting a war her boyfriend Jeff was not fighting his temptations, but indulging in them. She found out her boyfriend of several months was cheating on her while she was toughing it out in Iraq. Her life quickly turned upside down, not only was she alone in the dessert but also in her heart. Her family is also in her every thought as she listens to rounds going off miles ahead.

Sara had to be strong because she knew she was alone and survival was not an option. Her mother was in her constant thoughts remembering the name she calls her, black beauty. She named her black beauty as a child growing up in Jamaica. She had a lot of time to think on her past while her future hung in the hands of the enemy. An enemy that had no value for life itself. She is out of her element and her normal living. She went from regular toilets to home made toilets and burning her feces. Sex was also lost in the desert which will put her up against her self in months to come. How did Sara survive it all and keep her sanity. Who were her new friends when Jeff’s letters use to provide her medicine for all her bruises? How did war change Sara? And did she figure out the reason why she went to war?

Several months later Sara returned home to Philadelphia in one piece with her sanity. Along her journey she found inner peace and triumph. She saw dead bodies and heard the cries of the wounded. She wanted so much to get on with her life and pick up the pieces. Jeff was no where to be found when the plane landed and she knew this day would come. Though she knew it was over it was still an empty place. Sara went on with her life as a soldier putting the war behind her. A war that damaged her relationship and kept her away from her civilization. Sara walked into her living room with a sigh of relief, she was home.
